Invitation to OMT Doctoral Student and Junior Faculty Workshop
OFEL Conference, Dubrovnik, April 7-8

Dear fellow scholars,

we are proud to announce that the OFEL conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia, will host a Doctoral Student and Junior Faculty Research Development Workshop organized in collaboration with the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) of the Academy of Management, on April 7 and April 8, 2017.

The workshop will be led by Professor Davide Ravasi (Cass Business School, University of London), member of the Executive Committee of the OMT Division and former Associate Editor of the Journal of Management Studies, and Professor Marianne W. Lewis, Dean of Cass Business School, University of London, a highly influential and published scholar.

Doctoral students and junior faculty at all levels are encouraged to participate, especially if they are in the process of submitting, or are planning to submit a paper to an academic journal. The main objectives of the workshop are to strengthen participants’ capacity for designing a high quality research paper, get feedback on their work, foster collaboration among doctoral students and junior faculty from Eastern Europe, and to transfer the essential know-how on publishing in top journals.

During the first part of the workshop, the speakers will illustrate and discuss how the editorial process works in top academic journals, and share their experience – as authors, reviewers, and editors – in doing and publishing research in these journals. A particular emphasis will be made on how to claim a theoretical contribution.

The second part of the workshop will focus on how to write a good introduction. Considering the importance of introduction as that is the part of the paper editors get in touch first when reading your paper, participants will learn about “what makes a good introduction” and how to shape your paper for publication. Every participant who has one, will receive other participants’ research paper introduction, and offer feedback. Participants are also invited to present their papers in the conference format (10 minutes), upon which they will be given friendly feedback.

We receive applications for the workshop until March 15th, 2017. In order to apply please send a short cover letter (cca 150 words) and your resume.

Participants that would like to present a paper, and get feedback on their work, should send their papers of max 8 000 words including references and the appendix by March 1st, 2017 the latest.

This year attendance at the workshop is free of charge. All participants will be offered lunch and light refreshments throughout the day. The conference also includes extracurricular activities like a gala dinner, the closing ceremony, and trips to explore the beauties of the city of Dubrovnik and its region, which you can take part in for a small fee.

The workshop will be held at the University of Dubrovnik, Department of Economics and Business Economics (Address: Lapadska obala 7, 20000 Dubrovnik, Croatia).
